The admission framework of the HKU Engineering reflects our vision to empower students through diverse approaches, offering both faculty-based signature initiatives and department-based programmes that support a wide spectrum of academic aspirations:
Faculty-based Signature Initiatives
The Faculty is steadfastly advancing bold, signature initiatives that unite expertise and resources across units to elevate the student experience and anticipate the frontiers of engineering. With a clear vision, these initiatives are dedicated to cultivating visionary leaders, AI ready engineers, engineers with exceptional business acumen, and interdisciplinary talents poised to excel in emerging fields.
*Students admitted via these programmes will select their major at the end of Year 1. Subject to academic performance and availability.

Department-based Programmes
Students with a clear, confirmed interest in a particular engineering discipline may apply for direct admission to the corresponding engineering department.
HKU Engineering-Cambridge Undergraduate Recruitment Scheme
(Application during the Year 1 study in HKU Engineering)
This scheme is extremely competitive, and HKU Engineering will nominate suitable students for assessment by the University of Cambridge. Students will study two years at HKU followed by three years at Cambridge.
